What constitutes an everyday hero?

Someone who makes a positive difference in other people's lives but gets little (if any) recognition for it... could be a volunteer at an old people's home or just someone who helps out a stranger in trouble... everyday heroes. Also, they usually wear their y-fronts under their trousers.
